bingo, anniversaries, birthday, prayers...

Just a quickie.
We have our 7th annual cheesey bingo with friends this weekend. Always a December favorite.
We have our 12th engagement anniversary this Sunday, aka Pearl Harbor Day as well. I can't believe the time....I can't imagine it spent in any other way.
We have my baby's 7th birthday next week. 7? what? Jake mentioned 4th grade. What? Can't they be 6 & 8 forever. They are great ages. They are great kids.
We also need continued prayers for baby Zoe (see below) and I have some other family members who need to be kept in prayer.

2 holidays down and 2 more to go...

Halloween was beautiful this year weather-wise. We had nearly 70 degrees for the kids to enjoy. J was a trooper and S was a pirate, snow princess and belle...you know everyday is halloween for my dress up queen.

Thanksgiving was fairly uneventful and lovely as well. No major drama. well...ya, nothing too major.

Kids got their first report cards and are doing fantastic. Sky is reading at about a 2nd grade level. She LOVES it. It really has improved her personal world. J loves to read, but she LOVES LOVES LOVES to read. It's cute. Oh and she loves to go to her room, turn the music on and sing or dance....nearly 7, nearly an evil tweenager! Jake is still taking off in piano. I am constantly amazed at how he can play a piece once and then perfect it without his sheet music. yes, 2 hands and all...It's a gift I tell him that a lot of people don't have and he should be thankful. He does enjoy it which makes it all the better.

Bri's swim season is over. He thinks he's done coaching...he has been burnt out due to this season. We shall see on that one. Otherwise, he's doing well...actually developed a nice new organized method to his teaching (finally)! He has been a lot more relaxed because he is on top of his work.

Me, well, the babysitting gig is ending at Christmas. I have been subbing in preschool and LOVE it. They offered me a super deal...M-F 8:30-12:30 with previously committed days and the summer off! I could not beat that... I know I said I don't miss teaching, but please note that applies to anyone over the age of 6! Oh, have whooping cough since halloween, dr. said plan on it to remain in some form til christmas. OH WELL! Sky had super strep throat and there has been some some sort of evil germ pretty much in everyone's house right now. UGH!!

So December is near. Bingo, Sky is 7, kids vacation, CHRISTMAS and New Years...oh and best of all is Pearl Harbor Day! That was the day Brian asked me to marry him some 12 years ago!! I will update again hopefully before Jan! I am a Facebook junkie now a days.

Well...look who's blogging again!

Yeah yeah...I am much more into my facebook page as of late. Sorry for no updates.
School has begun and the kids are doing very well. Jake's in 3rd and Sky 1st. She is reading so well. I love it. She WANTS so badly to learn. It is cute. She is turning into a little teen. She listens to music in her room with her door closed. She will sit in there music blarring and reading. She asked if we could get a real pink fuzzy phone for the playroom the other day. I thought oh no..here it all comes and she is only going to be 7!

Jake is playing piano, singing in the choir and is obsessed with pokemon. He is really growing up. He is a good student and has made lots of friends. It is really nice. I knew time would allow for him to grow out of his crazy behavior. IF Brian and I believed in ADD or ADHD, we would have had him drugged like every other parent in kindergarten. Fortunately, as teachers, we have seen how this has been disturbingly over diagnosed. Parents should sit back and let their rambunctious little one have time to grow out of it. Skylar has entered that stage now. I have an idea that she is actually bored in class and so why not doodle or tip a chair here and there. As long as work gets done right???? I can almost see it in the teacher's eyes when they tell me that they want to suggest some sort of problem...I however cut them off with a "DON'T EVEN" look.

ANYWAY....Bri has been coaching swimming again. Almost done with that for the season. I am watching a teachers baby on T/Th 8-3 and that has been really nice. I was trying to start my own drama troupe and a school picked it up! Then of coarse, funding fell through and so I have nothing. I miss it too much. I don't exactly know what I will do. I enjoy being on the PA and very involved in school. I DO NOT MISS TEACHING! I have subbed a couple of times. I may do it 1-2 times per month, but that is it.

Other than all of that...same old same old...
Enjoy the fall.

August 26th??Really?

So summer has come and gone since I last wrote. I am sitting here with a snoring frenchie on one side and WE ARE MARSHALL on the big tv with a box of kleenex on my lap. This movie is too sad. Bri is working on a dvd, he goes back to work tomorrow. The kids are long in bed. Soooo what's new you say?

1. We had a great summer did Great America, Ren Faire.... Jake has turned into a little man over summer. He is more aware of his clothing and he even asked for a new hair cut for school. He looks older and his mouthyness (sp?) has gotten to be a bit testier (sp?). We are working on it. He's now in 3rd grade. I abolutely can not believe it. He's continuing with piano and is doing well. This summer he kicked butt in baseball and picked up a new hobby...pokemon. ugh. he uses his allowance to get the cards, so all is well. He is learning strategy and responsibilty believe it or not. He is taking care of these cards! See...a little man.

2. Skylar is my ray of ravenous sunshine. She is sweet and monsterous at the same time. She also has a new adorable haircut and is growing so quickly. She loves when someone asks her how old she is and she can holler out 6 and 3/4!! Teacher called us up already. ugh. She is so bright...really smart! BUT she does her own thing. Today, she cut her gym shirt and broke all her crayons so she can have more. ha. Well, although I am looking at this as an adjustment period from freeloving walk around kindergarten, she has to adjust quickly. She kept up with Jake all summer. She even just bought her own pokemon set and today they played for the first time. They are either best friends or mortal enemies. I guess that is to be expected!

3. Bri taught for 4 weeks this summer. He helped me do some house stuff and he got to play a lot of online poker. oh, I learned to play poker too and have been invited into some of his poker nights with the boys. It's fun... Jake and Skylar even know what makes a good hand! I hate that but with the price of high school and college...might come in handy!!! LOL!!

4. Did the Dells and had a great time.

5. Toby got the big snip snip after a summer of fun loving humping on Ivy...ha

6. Hung out with friends, pretty good block party again, saw some movie the usual.

7. After asking the kid's school if thye wanted to start a theatre programs, they kept giving me the brush off, so I searched elsewhere. I found the #5 CPS school to gladly take me on! That's a thrill in the making. I should have the program up and running mid October-Dec 2 days a week.

8. I am on the PA at school and will be a Brownie co-leader for Skylar's troop. It's a new troop, but there are 3 of us mommas and we are really excited, so it will be fun.

Brian is like...you have so much going on. I said, but I don't work! Well, I work very hard IN MY HOME, so these are all fun extras I get to do. Besides, too much free time and I go bonkers.

9. I will babysit only 2 days for a teacher's baby 8-3 so awesome hours and a few extra bucks. I will be off on all school holidays so no worries.

10. I am hoping for a fairly uneventful September. It's looking to be busy, but when are the Boyles not doing something??

other news

So Shel is moving to Texas. ???CRAZY right. I say go for it.
Toby has been a super addition to the house. He will start puppy class mid June.
Jake's first piano recital was amazingly sweet.
Sky's reading.
I am painting the bathroom a shade of ...wait for it...violet. It will look sweet. I'll post pics when it is done. The LR and DR is the fall job. ha.
Bri only has 4 weeks of summer school whichis coolio. lots of museum fun.
OH and I learned to play poker...texas hold'em, 5 card and 7 card stud... I'm pretty ok. ha.
all else is well.

It's a waiting game...

So I was waiting for my new contract, I was waiting to plan our trip, I was waiting for Brian's summer schedule and I was waiting for the kids to finish school...

1. My contract was not renewed because I am not a teacher at the school anymore...WTF? Yeah, my thoughts. I like the IGNORED facts that the shows were great successes, made a lot of money and involved 20% of the school. HMMMM...sounds ratty. My drama kids are flippin' mad and are not taking it lying down. They have a meeting scheduled to fight it tomorrow. I told them they should be heard if they have something to say. I doubt anything will change, but I feel so loved and appreciated. It's a Mr. Holland's Opus, Dead Poets Society and Dangerous Minds moment. I don't want to teach, but I loved directing...

2. Well, Brian's got his schedule and we are off to the Dells early in August. yipee. Kids are pumped. We decided we will do Disney next year. UGH...

3. Skylar graduates kindergarten on Thursday. My BABY is going into 1st grade. My sweet boy is going into 3rd. Oh my...Why? When? Where did the time go? They are awesome and exciting and challenging. They aregoing to take swimming and some camp stuff...

Oh...85 degrees on Monday and 52 degrees on Tuesday...summer? STILL WAITING!!!

A Miracle named Zoe

Sam was honored to befriend and photograph a family going through an unbelievable tragedy. Fortunately they have always had a strong faith and that faith is allowing them to continue on. Please read Sam's post and the family's blog. I am amazed at their strength. I do not know them, but I pray for them... perhaps you can too.

This is Baby Zoe and her amazing family.. I was given the honor of being able to walk into the front door of the Batiansila household.. and experiencing something wonderful... so very hard to explain.. but amazing at that. Zoe has trisomy18.. her story can be followed on her family blog http://batiansila.blogspot.com/

My Boy...

He's 8! I am speechless.

The SLEEPOVER

So, I must have taken some obnoxious drug to have agreed to the night we had last night. Jake has been asking for a sleepover since summer. He wanted these same boys since summer. So we agreed for is birthday, he could have 5 boys over. 3 of them we knew to be sweet and nice. 2 of them are like Jake...wacky and wild. Then this week, the group of them did a side deal and invited another boy whom I knew nothing about. UGH. I felt bad when the mom called, so i let him come over. I had concerns, but "God grant me the serentity" right? So Sky pie went off to Sisi's house and we stayed and waited...
The eve of darkness began at 4pm, after a 1pm baseball game that 1/2 of them played in. They went home, showered and came over pumped up because they kicked booty. The yelling and running began. My threats began. OK...pizza hurry. So we ate and went off to see a movie, NIMS ISLAND. I must admit they were great there. I had to seperate Jake and one boy in the car because they just seemed to bring out the insanity in each other. Bri took the more "spirited" group in the van and I took Jake and 2 others. Upon return cupcakes and presents and fights over who will get to be which star wars guy and in which way??? UGH
9;30 Star Wars movie on...all sit and watch til 10:00 when 2 leave because they couldn't stay over and then 4 go off to play. 1 quiet guy sits with Bri and watches the movie. 10:45...time to chill guys. Go lay down. They chant "movie" in the room in which they were sleeping. I think a lot of these kids have tvs in there room. That is not something we encourage at all, but we agreed to 30 min of scooby doo. 2 of the 5 pass out. OH WAIT, did I mention one boy was allergic to the dogs and I had to contact his parents twice. UGH. well, he was one of the 2 that passed out after 11. Jake and the other 2 of the wacky boys stayed up teasing and wrestling to the point they were getting too rough. Bri had to lay in the room to calm them down. Jake was so overtired, he was crying. By the time all was said and done it was about 12:05. Well, Bri got up to let the dogs out at 6 and to go potty himself...MY BOY, the earliest bird ever was up at 6:15 and woke up everyone! So here I am trying to shush them a bit longer so I can fully wake. I gave bri til now to sleep and 1 boy seems to be able to sleep through an atomic bomb because he is still passed out.
I am going to have my coffe and make a massive stack of pancakes. It was painful and interesting. I didn't scream too much because I told myself...as much as I can't believe we agreed to this, WE DID AGREE TO THIS...I must keep my cool and learn from my "mistakes".
AHHHHHHHHHHH.....

We will have about 3 hours of silence then the family comes over for his bday dinner.
MY BOY IS 8 on Wednesday....

It was a success!

THE SHOW"

We had positive reviews from faculty on Thursday. Friday, J got strep throat with a high fever and he was out. At 10 am got a text from my stage manager saying one of the Alices was home puking. UGH. I run to school to find some info out and as I was in the building, in comes Alice 1. It was 11ish and she said she knew she could do it, don't worry. About 3:30pm, I find out the school has not gathered money for my cash boxes, so now I have to go begging at the bank for $200 worth of singles,5's and quarters. That proved more difficult than I thought. Simultaneously ALICE 2 starts puking. I got that call while trying to figure out the cash. I get the money, get to the stage about 5 pm for the 7pm show. ALICE 2 is passed out on the grass. Some wanted to cancel the show, ALICE 1 started trying to memorize ALICE 2's part and ALICE 2 just wanted to do the show. 2 seniors took ALICE 2 to the car with the air on and some cold rags and nursed her back. At 6:15, I held a mini meeting saying THE SHOW WILL GO ON...and it did. No one was any wiser to our conflict. It was a great show.
Sat. Jake was rested enough that he came back. He was adorable and excited. It was near PERFECT. I taped it and also gave the seniors a going away thanks. Sunday was an obnoxious crowd and we had a small snafu, I called it a teaching moment, but all was great. We had a wrap pizza and karaoke party, which was fun too. Bri is always so helpful with this stuff. I was very happy with the outcome of this mega difficult show! I will post pics soon.

birthday and anniversary and showtime oh my!

So here we are April 2, 2008! Wow, sorry for the delay.
Life is rolling along quick magnificantly. I turned another year older...34. ugh. I don't really ever remember saying that was old, but now I think I am starting to rethink that. I started noticing aches and pains in odd places when I hit about 30. Since then I am surprised by some odd new medical something or other each year. I developed allergies and had wicked sinus surgeries for my 30th and 31st years. I got my first cavity at 33! What will 34 bring me? Ugh, let us hope it brings me smaller clothing sizes. I started working out again. Honestly I do feel better when I push it. I hate it, but I do it for me and for my kids.

Bri and I hit the 10 year wedding anniversary on 3/28.. Can't picture life without him. We did the Vegas Elvis Wedding Renewal on 3/2. It was great. We were able to celebrate with our friends Steve and Sherri, they stood up in the original wedding. I can't believe somedays that Brian and I have been together for 13 years. I feel like we have grown and yet stayed the same. Does that make sense? Like we are floating joyfully in a bowl of jello except the flavor is always changing. ok, that is the most bizarre thing I could think of at nearly 11pm. Sorry.

The trip was great except...1. it was my first time away from the youngins and 2. the return flight lost our luggage. LOST, not delayed and delivered...LOST IT! They have until June 8th to find it or pay us out. Nice....

Love being home. I am really busy. I love being on my own schedule, helping at school, running errands whatever. It really works for this family. I do still love to work with my drama kids. Alice is going better. Up until today I was getting worried. We open in 2 weeks and that will just be enough time to tie it up. I had to slam down on them hard because they were slacking. They seemed to take the advice and prove something today, so YEAH for YELLING!

Toby, the pup is adorable and doing very well. Maybe 1 accident a day. Not bad. He loves Ivy and the kids. We are all gelled up now. I am so happy I found the muchkin.

Some friends are having babies. UGH. good for them. NOT ME! all done. I am beyond thrilled that my kids can buckle up, dress, feed and eat on their own, have friends over in the basement or outside, read to me, do work, help with chores, tell us stories, invent, tell us what's wrong, understand reason and logic (sometimes) and KNOW what we mean when we tell them something, anything. It is wonderful. They are wonderful. Gifts man. Everyday I thank God for my gifts. They make me who I am. I strive to be a person they will be happy to grow up to be like. They don't get to be tv addicts or video game junkies and they don't seem to mind. They appreciate their toys and the use of their minds. Jake loves to invent with different media. Skylar to write and illustrate stories. I will hold on to this for as long as possible. I cherish this time. I know it will change, I only hope they don't let the others in the world change them too much. I hope they influence others...I hope they lead.
Wow, that's off in another direction. Ok, enough.
Promise to write soon.

February already?

So here we are Superbowl Sunday... Where is the time going? Things have been going very well. I am digging being home. Kids love it too. The overall feel is way less stress. I even started going back to work out, school board meetings and cooking for real!
I have decided do do Alice's Adventures in Wonderland for the Spring play. We had our first tech day and the excitement seems high. I am nervous and excited!
Jake is turning 8 soon, followed by his communion in May. It is such an amazing time.
OH, did I mention we have a new member of the family...
Toby... my new french bulldog puppy. he was 8 wks when we brought him home. He will be 10 weeks tomorrow. OH MY GOODNESS... adorable. sweet. Ivy is being a little momma to him. Will post pix soon.
Life is grand.

The holidaze.....

Yes, DAZE!
I love Thanksgiving with family and food... I love Christmas sharing the meaning and joy with family and friends and then wham! the New Years slam and it is over in a flash. The next thing you know you are taking things down and packing away until next year. It seems like a daze.

Well, all went well. The kids were super gracious and thankful... sweetly excited. It was interesting because a distant uncle died the Thursday before Christmas and several relatives came up from the south and stayed through th e30th. That added about an extra 10 kids under the age of 12 for the holiday....20 in total. We kept the cool. It was cool because many of these cousins met for the first time under this sad occassion. They loved it.

NYE... uneventful. went to Sam's for dinner and we tried to play smarter than a 5th grader (boys vs. girls style) and we weren't!!! We were home by 10ish. I stayed up to watch the Chicago countdown on ch. 7 and sleep settled in nicely after that.

Considering a new pup. Well, it started with Bri falling in love with a pup his mom had. Her friend took the pup and now the bug is back. Ivy has not been the same since River moved on. She loves other dogs. Plays with my dad's often. So, the search is on for boxer #2. This household swore to never raise boxers (for those that don't know, Bri was raised in a boxer breeding/showing household)...well, here we are!

Best news... done teaching... probably for a long time. I will stay on as the drama director. The next show starts in Feb. I am deciding between Alice's Adventures in Wonderland or Hickory Dickory Dead (murder mystery). I will keep you posted.

PEACE and HAPPY DAYS FOR 2008
